Budding Historians will love this as will Photographers.

A colorful local boat will take you to the pier at Athinios where your guide and vehicle will be waiting. After a scenic drive past many picturesque villages, you will reach the southern end of the island and the archaeological site of Akrotiri.

Approximately1500 BC, a volcanic eruption destroyed all life in the area and much of the island collapsed beneath the waves. The remains of Akrotiri remained undiscovered until excavations led by Professor Spyros Marintos began in 1967.  What he uncovered was evidence of an amazing city complete with houses, streets, squares and workshops, all of which had been covered under a thick blanket of pumice for almost 3,500 years.

You will be able to walk around this ancient city’s well preserved buildings, giving you insight into what life was like in the ancient civilization of Santorini.

Next on the agenda is Fira town, where the new Archaeological Museum is located. In this remarkable museum, you will see artifacts excavated at the site of Akrotiri, including the recent discovery of a golden Ibex.  Later you will enjoy some free time in town before enjoying a short cable car ride down to the pier.

I don’t think there is anything I could say that would be much different from all the glowing reviews already written about Ada Vegas Travel. They was beyond exceptional and exceeded all our expectations. He met us right on time, took us all around Santorini, assisted with his photographic expertise, shared a plethora of information about everything from the ruins, to the history, the people, restaurants, the culture and more.
