Ancient Kamiros and Philerimos Tour can be described as an infusion of History, Culture and Atmosphere. Beautiful surroundings and a well paced tour ensure that you get the most from this day.

Your tour begins with a panoramic drive through the city of Rhodes. Your guide will recount the history of the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and show you the exact location of where it  used to stand.

Next we will visit three different sites along the west coast of the island, each with its own charm and beauty.  The scenic drive will take us through the countryside past picturesque villages lined with olive groves.

Furthest from the city of Rhodes is the site of the ancient city of Kamiros.  The city is home to many atriums, temples, and altars reminiscent of the famous city of Pompei—minus the volcanic catastrophe of course.

Finally, our drive will take us 270 meters above sea level to a mountain called Philerimos, the acropolis of the ancient city of Ialyssos. A monastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary now sits on top of the mountain and houses a famous icon that tradition says was painted by St. Luke. On the opposite side of the archeological area lies a path lined with cypress trees representing the Stations of the Cross, culminating with a monumental cross.  The view from the top of the cross is spectacular.

You’ll also have an opportunity to eat at a local cafe that serves fantastic “Seven Herb” liquor, a local specialty.

On the return journey to Rhodes you will also see an Ancient Stadium in the distance as well as a few other ruins. Once back to Rhodes you will have the option either to disembark and explore the town, returning to the ship at your leisure, or to continue by bus all the way back to the cruise ship.
