On this 8-hour shore excursion from Izmir Cruise Ship Port you will receive a private guided sightseeing tour with air-conditioned transport to and from Ephesus. On arrival at Ephesus you will enter through the Magnesia Gate and begin a slow, downhill walk with your guide into the ruins of the former Roman provincial capital. Your route will take you past the Temple of Hadrian, the Fountain of Trajan, the Great Theatre and the spectacular Celsus Library.

The showpiece of the archaeological remains, the library stands in remarkable ruins as a testament to the intellectual prowess of the Romans. At one time it may have contained as many as 15,000 scrolls in reading rooms where scholars met and studied. It is probably the most photographed exhibit in the site.

You will also see ruins from the Ottoman Empire and early Christian period. You will visit the House of the Virgin Mary. The Vatican has recognized this small house in the Solmissos Mountains as the final resting place of Mary, Mother of Jesus.

A small shrine dedicated to St. Mary was found when the ruins of the house were first discovered.

You will visit the site of the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, dedicated to the goddess Diana, before transferring back to Izmir Cruise Ship Port for your evening cruise activities or departure.

Booked online from adavegastravel.com which was convenient, secure and discounted price. Our guide reliably picked us at the hotel on time. He was Ilkay Candar (Kai) and he was professional, entertaining and knowledgeable. Ephesus is a must see collage of time and religions, better than Pompeii. Afterwards we had a delicious lunch and visited a carpet weaving factory which was interesting but a little hard sell. The carpets were amazing but expensive as you would expect for hand made.

This was such an amazing visit. As a Christian it was a special place to visit. The biblical history was incredible and brought much of the new testament alive for us!

What an amazing glimpse into history. This early A.D. Society had a terra cotta pipeline to bring fresh water into homes and public baths. They designed intricate mosaics for their walkways. They used condo-type residences; created a massive 69,000 seat theater. And built a library in the style of Petra’s. Wear shoes with good traction, and a hat. Consider an umbrella as another source of shade. Bring water. Be prepared for stairs, if you visit the fascinating terrace houses – and you should. And get a good guide with a professional travel agency like Adavegas Travel. Our guide was our excellent guide. Our guide highlighted unique items, such as the stone backgammon board. You need at least three hours to adequately visit this amazing place.
